UP, UP AND AWAY
For the past 31 years the Ballooning Association of Victoria has gathered at Cave Hill Creek in August for a social flying weekend for balloon pilots and enthusiasts!
This year, seven balloons from across Victoria enjoyed a spectacular weekend of flying, including a Saturday sojourn from Cave Hill Creek to Raglan, and a joyous Sunday flight from Crowlands to Joel Joel as the sun rose.
Tim’s dad, Ian was a balloon pilot and the Chandler family spent many weekends travelling around Victoria and Australia for ballooning meets as a family. Tim followed in his footsteps and also flew for a number of years. During that time many friendships were forged through a love of hot air. ‘The weekend has always been fantastic when we fly, but when the weather isn’t our friend it’s also a darn good time’…
VICTORIAN CONCERT ORCHESTRA RETURNS FOR SUCCESSFUL LOCAL FUNDRAISER
The Victorian Concert Orchestra certainly know how to entertain! The 40 piece touring orchestra featuring experienced musicians and up and coming talent keen to share their passion with regional audiences, returned to Cave Hill Creek on 6 August for a community fundraiser.
Under the baton of Musical Director / Conductor, Gerald Keuneman OAM, the orchestra was joined by soloists, Veronica Iredale (lyric soprano) and Nicholas Matters (tenor). An intimate musical treat for attendees, the program included classics such as My Fair Lady, Pirates of the Carribean and Time To Say Goodbye…and had guests tapping their toes along to the music and enjoying the lakeside setting.
The event raised over $3,000 for the Beaufort and Skipton Health Service. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, Martha Haylett MP for stopping by, the Pyrenees Shire for assisting with the event, the Pyrenees Advocate, and of course the Victorian Concert Orchestra.
A giant 3-4 night school holiday sleepover of fun, making friends and getting outdoors for kids aged 8-14.

VALE ROBERT ALLEN
Some sad news to share. Robert Allen, who officially opened Cave Hill Creek in 1988 passed away this week aged 87. Robert worked with the then Forest Commission in Beaufort, and as the plaque says was a “true friend of the forest”. He was also a great friend and mentor to Ian and Julie when they established Cave Hill Creek. Our thoughts are with Robert’s wife, Diedre and family.
