Cave Hill Creek offer the best School Camp accommodation and facilities in Regional Victoria, suitable for fully programmed or teacher-led camps.
Our school camp program focuses on developing a child’s love for the outdoors through challenging and fun activities – from canoeing, abseiling, mountain biking and ropes courses, to archery, hut and raft building, bushwalks, orienteering, bush cooking and so much more!
School camp is an important place for students to develop life skills, relationships (both with their peers and teachers), independence and resilience. Our award-winning school camp programs are catered towards cultural and indigenous awareness, environmental consciousness and sustainability. Our school camp program outcomes can be mapped to the Victorian curriculum to help schools meet their curriculum needs.
At Cave Hill Creek, we understand that not all students have received an outdoor education before, and for many Cave Hill Creek is their first experience being away from their family. This makes our Residential Camps the perfect entry point for a student’s first time school camp. During Residential Camp we host outdoor activities that are facilitated by camp staff and school teachers.
It is suitable for students ranging from Year 3 to Year 7 attending their first ever camp, and also as a pastoral retreat for Year 11s and 12s. Residential Camp is also a popular choice to host school music groups and school sports teams. All meals and equipment are provided and you will be staying in our Lakeview Lodge bunk rooms (or Glamping Village, depending on the size of the group) during Residential Camp, so you only have to pack your personal items.
Bush & Base Camps is the next step up for students who have already been on School Camp at least once before and are ready to have their first ever experience in setting up a base camp and pitching a tent in the forest. This is perfect for students from Grade 5 through to Year 9 and is ideal for large groups who are excited to trek around and stay at the Mt. Cole State Forest campground. Get ready to spend 3-4 nights camping under the stars, and depending on the size of your school group you may spend a night in our Lakeview Lodge bunk rooms or Glamping Village.
Bush & Base Camp outdoor activities and camping is facilitated by our experienced camp staff. This is a terrific opportunity for students to really embrace the outdoors, learn basic life skills, strengthen friendships and have a blast doing it!
Take advantage of the highly regarded walking trails on our doorstep. We host a number of different guided overnight walks and journey based camps to satisfy your adventurous spirit. Our experienced expedition coordinators can cater guided walks to your School group, incorporating breathtaking views, intimate knowledge of local fauna and flora, as well as imparting awareness and understanding of the indigenous origins of the area.
Cave Hill Creek’s journey based camps are for experienced campers who have a solid foundation of outdoor education. Our 2-5 day guided walks on the Beeripmo Walk are fun and rewarding outdoor experiences for secondary school students aimed at developing independence, resilience and teamwork.
Mount Cole is known to the local Indigenous Beeripmo Balgug people as ‘Beereep Beereep’ or the ‘Wild Mount’. The Beeripmo Walk is a superb looped 17km trail that starts close to the Cave Hill Creek, traverses the peaks of the Mount Cole range and comes back around to near the base camp.
The Beeripmo Walk is a perfect introduction to overnight walking for secondary school students. Walkers are rewarded with commanding vistas of the surrounding basalt plains and Grampians. Our specialist guides lead small school groups on a fun and rewarding journey that is aimed at developing independence, resilience and teamwork.
Meals and bushwalking equipment (e.g. backpacks, tents, sleeping mats, cooking stoves etc.) are provided throughout the journey. Also note: Campgrounds are accessible to vehicles with mobile reception being available.
Being just a 45 minute drive from Ballarat, many schools chose to combine a school camp at Cave Hill Creek with a visit to Ballarat’s popular ‘Aura’ light and sound show as part of the famous Australian History excursion to Sovereign Hill.
Cave Hill Creek is ATAP accredited as required by the Department of Education. Contact us today for further information or enquiries; we would love to talk to you further about your camp needs.
School Camps are for the children only, sorry parents this is not for you to participate in! However we do have some valuable information for parents to help their kids get ready for the fun and challenging outdoor activities. We’ve compiled a list of the most important items we recommend that your child bring along to make their stay at camp as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
